In October 1979, the Ivory Coast Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mr. Amoakon Edjampan Thiemele, hosted Dr. Salim at a reception. Dr. Salim was then President of the 34th UN General Assembly. In attendance was also Benjamin Mkapa, who was then Minister of Foreign Affairs to the United Republic of Tanzania.
