Speech After Winning OAU Secretary General Position

Although the dates are not clear in the speech, Dr. Salim likely gave his speech during the 25th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government from July 24 - 26, 1989 at the OAU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The daunting tasks and challenges ahead of were not lost on Dr. Salim but he remained steadfast in promoting unity as a tool for perseverance and success. 

"Africa's success in the liberation struggle was made possible in large measure by its oneness of view and unity of action on the issue. We are united in our resolve to rid our continent of colonialism and racialism. And while we have occasionally debated strategy, never has there been the slightest doubt os to our unity of purpose. We should therefore ensure that this unity is preserved and strengthened as we tackle the economic challenges facing us." - Dr. Salim
