On October 11, 1990 Dr. Salim was invited to deliver the inaugural Africa Center Lecture. Dr. Salim spent most of his lecture on the ongoing challenges in South Africa and efforts to dismantle Apartheid. He also discussed the economic crisis that many African countries were facing and stagnant economic growth.
