Statement to the Third African, African-American Summit

  • Share

"The meeting here in Dakar is the third encounter between the leadership in Africa and the leadership of our brothers and sisters from the United States of America. And this happy initiative is the product of hard work by the Rev. Dr. Leon Howard Sullivan and his Associates. I, as the Secretary General of the OAU, know the intrinsic value this initiative. This privileged position has brought me face to face with the complex and manifold problems that plague our continent as well as the means at our disposal to address these problems. It is in this connection that my sense of feeling comes into play when once a while, a voice in the wilderness is heard pleading the cause of Africa, such as our brothers and sisters, African-Americans have been doing for sometime now. We are grateful for this vital support." - Dr. Salim May 2, 1995
