Address to the 27th Assembly of Heads of State and Government

"The important and prestigious post of Secretary-General of the United Nations has been occupied by eminent personalities from various parts of the Globe. No African has, as yet, had the honor or privilege to serve the organization at that level. It is my firm believe that there are many Africans with diplomatic and political experience and endowed with managerial skills who are able and capable of carrying out the duties attached to this top international position. The competence, skill, devotion and experience of these eminent Africans place them in a good position to lead the United Nations. It is my hope, therefore, that the international community will favorably consider the election of an African to this post."
