Address at the 4th Regional Conference on the Integration of Women in Development

"At Institutional level, I am happy to announce that last Friday, I signed an Executive Order establishing a women's unit in the General Secretariat. This will ensure that each of its five departments will take women's interests into account and integrate them in their programmes of work. The unit will have a very precise mandate to ensure that women's concerns and interests and, above all, the role of women are taken into serious consideration in the drafting of OAU work programmes." - Dr. Salim, November 6, 1989
