Statement by H.E. Salim A. Salim Secretary General of the O.A.U at the 10th Session of the P.T.A Authority in Lusaka, Zambia.

"Closer consultations in these and other related economic matters within the P.T.A. and with other regional economic communities within the framework of the Pan African community is therefore a must. It is by far the most important instrument for enhancing Africa's collective strength in the world of today which is undergoing significant fundamental changes. This is why I would like to emphasize the urgency of ratifying the treaty establishing the Pan African economic community. In this regard, I am pleased that two countries in East and Southern African region namely Seychelles and Zimbabwe have already ratified the treaty. Two other countries, Ghana and Nigeria, have also ratified the treaty. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to renew my appeal to all the other member states of the OAU to expedite the process of ratification in order to enable the community to take off as soon as possible."
