In 2000, Dr. Salim held a number of meetings, courtesy calls and sessions with dignitaries far and wide.

- Meeting with Mauricio Mellani (Director of African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Italy)
- Meeting with Catherine Bertini (WFP Executive Director and UN Secretary General Special Envoy on Drought in the Greater Horn of Africa)
- Meeting with Carol Bellamy (Executive Director of UNICEF)
- Meeting with Mary Robinson (UN High Commissioner for Human Rights)
- Meeting with Mark Mallock Brown (UNDP Administrator)
- Meeting with Peter Piot (Executive Director of UNAIDS)
- Meeting with Vivian Derrick (Assistant Administrator for the United States Agency for International Development)
- Meeting with Kofi Annan (UN Secretary General)
- Meeting with President Paul Kagame (President of Rwanda) at the signing of the Constitutive Act of the African Union at the OAU HQ
