"My first visit (to Indonesia) was in April 1963 when at a tender age of 21 I attended the first Afro-Asian Journalists Conference. Then I was Secretary General of the All Zanzibar Journalists Organization. My second visit was seventeen years later - in 1980 when I visited Indonesia as part of my tour which took me to Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia as President of the United Nations General Assembly. My third visit was a year later in 1981 when as Foreign Minister of Tanzania, I accompanied the then President of Tanzania on his state visit to Indonesia." - Dr. Salim, August 31, 1992
